Los Angeles, CA (October 25, 2022)- Angel City FC (ACFC) today announced a partnership with the Cal South Soccer Foundation (CSSF) to launch ACFC’s inaugural Coach Network Grant. ACFC and CSSF recognize a lack of community awareness and access to Soccer Coaching Education and are committed to increasing educational opportunities through this grant.
ACFC will identify the six community coaches for the first year of this program and work with the Cal South Soccer Foundation to register coaches, place them in a Grassroots Course, and support their progress in the class. Following the completion of the course, the Cal South Soccer Foundation will continue to assist participants by connecting them with local soccer organizations and teams within their community to introduce coaching jobs and opportunities.
“From AYSO to pro teams, women and non-binary individuals are underrepresented in coaching at every level of our sport,” explains Catherine Dávila, ACFC Head of Community. “ACFC knows how much representation matters, so we created the ACFC Coaching Network, a dedicated resource for providing education, mentorship, and access to paid opportunities for women and gender-expansive coaches. We’re beyond proud to team up with Gatorade and the CalSouth Foundation to launch our inaugural round of scholarships, and to continue growing the program.”
Founded in 2020, ACFC strives to make an impact on and off the pitch. ACFC has cemented themselves as a community leader and a visionary group by creating the Angel City Sponsorship Model, which ensures that 10 percent of all sponsorship dollars received go directly into community programs.
The Cal South Soccer Foundation, a local non-profit founded in 1999, is on a mission to build and empower communities through soccer by way of field development, soccer programs, and community-based grants. In working together with ACFC the Foundation has a teammate who aligns with their values and vision for soccer in Southern California.
“Through our partnership with ACFC, we will provide opportunities for coaching education to community members who are currently underrepresented in coaching roles. We recognize that coaches and mentors play a critical role in the development of our youth as players and people and we must invest in education and trainings to support the next generation of coaches.” said Jordan Schweitzer, Cal South Soccer Foundation Director.
